The prospect of aboriginal claim to the lands and holdings of the Minnesota Mdewakanton Dakota Sioux people and their anscestors looms large in all of the past and present discussion of what is presently happening concerning our people. We should never give in or give up on thinking in terms of these concepts such as aborginal claim and/or rightful historical, yet unrecongnized claim to the historical and logical, holdings that any one of us, think that our peoples are and were, illegally divested of, with and by, the UNLAWFUL Act of 1863, which was the linchpin of the total annilation of the Dakota Sioux holdings and annuity rights in the Minnesota homeland. I would hope that all that search, keep the notion in mind, that it is not enough, just to think back to 1885 through 1890........ we need to all expand our collective mindset to encompass the real history of what actually happened, and try to determine the underpinnings as to why it happened, beyond the 1862 insurgency........ we know the history of those that have told us the history. We can accept that history for what it is.......but I hope you realize that that history has always been told by those that wrote it.......those that wrote that history back then, had an agenda......they had an agenda to totally deprive the Dakota Sioux of all of their holdings and of the very existence of the Dakota Sioux........if you look carefully at the historical record of what the powerbrokers of the time were telling the US Congress, then you can realize that the events were not merely happenstance that an insurgency occured, but that it was inevitable, according to the government's grand scheme as to how to deal with the "Indian problem" in Minnesota. As it is always true, then, and even in the present day, follow the money, and who was profitting from the divesture and totalling opening up of the Mdewakanton lands to the settlers and the profiteers....... Look at the timing.......look at the expanse of the railroads and the mining industries and who was behind it.......look at the need for ever increasing land bases for homesteading or settlers......look at the realty transactions and the benefactors of those transactions.........fraud was the mode of the day.....fraud was rampant.......the 1862 events, in my humble belief, were provoked, in light of the needs of the profiteers, for an excuse......to try to accumulate public opinion in their favor, to carry out the theft of the lands, property and holdings of the Mdewakanton Dakota Sioux, under a false pretense, in order to generate a national sentiment that favored the removal and extermination of our anscestors, and then, to take and use, our anscestors' lands and holdings, for their own beneficial and commercial use....... Tell me if I am wrong.......point out to me where I am wrong.. tell me that it is not still going on today......to try to divide and conquer us all, again........in every issue that confronts our people. The maps remind me of the balance that was when it was, and when there was integrity between human beings as to their own territories......the rules have changed drastically, before the eyes of our anscestors, and even now, before our own eyes......we need not to be sheep in the herd, but we need to be the bull that steps out of the herd, strongly, to stand, and to breathe, and to represent............that......we do not live our lives to be subservient to the governmentally chosen that theoretically own and possess our anscestors' rightful holdings........the stand needs, of course, to be backed up by the intelligent and dillegent, research and findings of all of you and yours......we are who we are for what we do........we are what we are by what we do......we are who we are because of what we do to know and express who we are. I am sorry for going on like this, but every time I see these historical maps, I cannot help but try to enclose the soul within me from 1862, that tries to break through my 2008 brown skin..... we can only see the truth through the diligent discovery of the truthful facts of the past. Please keep trying. Every light of life in our world shines as brightly as the other...this is where we can achieve the high road in our journey....no ONE,,.......is left out in the quest for the betterment of the many. keep trying to acheive that goal for yourself and those that you love........and, hopefully, for us all.
